Nothing old...just my NEW lens

OK, be honest and really DO tell me if my lens is a good or a bad copy...I bought the 28-75mm 2.8 and I'm wondering how to tell the difference between 'good' vs 'bad'. Here's some examples that I've done... TFL!

PP :USM (at 20/25/0) and resizing (4x6 @ 300ppi).
SPECS: All shots in Manual Mode, RAW, ISO 400, AV 5.6 - Various SS's.

I think your shots are good, but I'm not too sure about the lens itself. They just don't look great, and certainly not really sharp.

Is this the Tamron? If so, I bought it several months ago (for my Nikon), and while I was so excited to have it, I returned it within a week due to the fact that it just wasn't sharp, even at f 5.6 and up :(. I have some photos on my blog from it, and they are so not good. I know I could have sent it to Tamron to be calibrated, but if it came back no better, it would be too late to return it. So, I'm slowly saving the $1400 + (YIKES) to buy the Nikon equivalent of that lens.

I agree the photos are good...but I also noticed that they weren't that sharp...I wasn't sure if it was the lens or the web resize though...

I agree about the sharpness, also not loving the bokeh. The focus fell off on all of these- but I'm not quite diggin the clarity and color of the grass, either.
What do you think?

I agree with all of the PP. The lens doesn't look very sharp. Bummer. Cute shots though.

Hmmmm. I think I have to agree. My first thought was cute pictures, but something is off (when I think about your other pictures in the past). So, it must be the lens. I really love the 2 middle pics - so cute!

Your girls are so stinkin' cute!

Okay...I bought that lens a couple months back even after reading that you could EASILY get a bad copy. In fact, it was shortly after Lauren returned her bad copy, so I felt like I was taking a BIG risk after reading about her experience.

But, anyway...I got mine & I LOVE it. SO many of my pictures on my blog were shot with the Tamron. Seriously. Maybe as much as 50% if not more. I tested it's sharpness by setting the ap at 2.8 & getting a closeup. That way, I could check it's sharpness based on the lashes. You can see one of my first shots with it & a 100% crop of the eye on my blog here:

Also, seriously...since then, MANY, MANY, MANY of my photos were taken with the Tamron.

I suggest trying a closeup wide open to test sharpness. It's much more difficult to gauge sharpness in web-sized full body shots. Also, did you sharpen for web? If you said so in your post, I apologize for missing it.

They are not very sharp, but your girls are just beautiful. Sorry you are having a hard time.

Love the shots... The poses/crops are really nice!!! I mean really! I'm not sure about the sharpness. I'm using my laptop right now and the monitor on it really stinks. I know each time I've gotten a new lens, I've had a bit of a learning curve. Maybe you should give it a bit more time and then decide--in time to return if necessary, of course!?? Good luck with it, Cristina. I hope you get it all figured out!

I agree with the pp...the sharpness is off BUT the composition of these shots is great! I hope you figure out the lens issue! Your girls are adorable!
