Test #2

Ok, so following Amy's advice I decided to run a little test on close ups at 2.8 and then magnifying the eyes to 100%. (Thanks girl, you're awesome!)

Now, based on the DOF calculator over at ILP, and the focal distance and aperture at which I was shooting, I only had 0.14ft (when at 75mm) to 0.22ft (at 60mm) to work with. In reality, that's approximately 1.68inches to 2.64inches to work with (or that would be in focus). Man that's some little tiny space!

Here's what I came up with...oh and btw, I just went looking for a BW action and (though I have purchased a few before) and ran across Kristina's....I must say, it's a pretty cool one. Doesn't blow my whites like the other ones that I own (which are too contrasty at times). Anyway. Here are the shots. I think... well.... you be the judge...and DO tell me as you see them please. And I'm sorry I forgot to mention that my lens is the Tamron.

The focus on Chris and Lorely's shots is on the viewer's left eye.

The focus on Daniela's shot is on the viewer's right eye.

PP - USM at 20/25/0 and resized (4x6 @ 150ppi). BW done with Kristina's conversion.
SPECS: AV Mode at 2.8, focal length at 65-75mm (very close to them). ISO 200. SS - ????

TFL! :D

Ok...its not a math test.
This is certainly over my head, but I see what you want us to see as far as the focus!

well they certainly look sharp to me! now i will have to try what Amy said too. i am having problems with getting both sets of eyes in focus...good luck with your new lens. it looks like you got the focus down to a science!

Not bad - I really like the first picture. I miss your 85 mm lens. I'm not sure, I just like your other lens better. Sorry, I know that's no help.

Nice shots! They look good but I'm not sure what you're looking for as far as feedback.

My head just exploded all the the screen! LOL, you totally lost me and this is something I need to know, can you explain this for the mathmatically impaired. Focus for dummies. Your shots are gorgeous by the way!

EEEEKK! I wish I could help you out... I'm afraid I don't really know what the expectations are from a lens like this. It's pretty sharp--but maybe not tack-sharp. ?? Hopefully some more knowledgeable peas will chime in and help you out. Your dd's are just gorgeous!

I can't tell on this screen- shh, I'm at work- but hopefully you can see what it is you are looking for. I'll look again tonight if I can...

I'm sorry I can't help you...the shots are beautiful! They look sharper than the others...hopefully some others can give you the technical feedback you are looking for...I should really learn that stuff!

they look pretty sharp to me, but not as sharp as they could be. But it could just be my tired eyes!
